Data Vortex President Carolyn Coke Reed Devany was invited to serve on the Advisory Council of Women in HPC by Dr. Toni Collins of the University of Edinburgh. Women in HPC (WHPC) was created with the vision to encourage women to participate in the HPC community by providing fellowship, education, and support to women and the organizations that employ them (http://www.womeninhpc.org.uk/). Through collaboration and networking, WHPC strives to increase the visibility of women in the computing industry while encouraging them to engage in outreach activities.

During the week of Supercomputing 2015, the Data Vortex team hosted a roundtable discussion with WHPC at the company’s offices in Austin, Texas. “As a female-led HPC company, Data Vortext is proud to host this roundtable discussions to help brainstorm new ways SC16 and the HPC industry itself can be even more inviting to women and inclusive of all minorities,” Devany said of the event.

Data Vortex Technologies takes pride in its strong relationship with female mathematicians, physicists, and top-level administrators. Dr. Coke Reed points to his collaboration with Polish mathematician Dr. Krystyna Kuperburg and the solving of Problem 110 in the Scottish Book as a significant point in DV’s history with great women thinkers. Grace, Jewel, and Hypatia, three of the company’s systems, are named after renowned women mathematicians and computer scientists from world history.
